Seminar on Tower and Radiation held in Aizawl

Aizawl (Mizo News): A seminar on Tower and Radiation was held at Synod Conference Centre.

It was jointly organised by the Mizoram government and Reliance Infocom Limited along with Association of Oncologists – North East India.

Information and Communication Minister Lal Thanzara also attended the seminar as chief guest, while AMC Chairman C.T. Zakhuma was the guest of honour.

Mobile phone has become intimately interrelated or interconnected with our day-today life. Without it, living becomes virtually impossible and therefore, it should be used with caution,” Lal Thanzara said .

The minister said that despite a comfortable and easy life brought in by mobile phone with its useful application in our daily life, all mobile users must be careful and cautious of using cell phone due to its adverse affect on human health.

“I believe this seminar will bring awareness on various health problems caused by the use of mobile phone and hope it will clear a nagging questions about the adverse affect of radiation,” he said.

While highlighting the steps taken by ICT Department and functioning of the department, the Minister said the Government of Mizoram is taking initiative for effective utilization of ICT department. While steps are also underway to effectively use mobile phone to communicate government functions to the general public, the Minister added.

AMC Chairman C.T. Zakhuma who also spoke on the occasion said that since the radiation emits from telecom tower is hazardous to human beings, NOC is meticulously issued to the telecom company every time before the installation of tower keeping in mind the health of people in the nearby surroundings.

P.L. Thanga, Member Secretary, State Planning Board said that many telecom companies operating in the state did not function properly while giving mobile service. He highlighted the various technical and infrastructural development that can be brought in with the launching of 4G especially in the field of telemedicine, e-governance and education.

In the afternoon session, five experts from different governmental and telecom departments spoke on various issues. The five experts are Chief Technical Officer (Assam, NE), Reliance Infocom Limited; T.K. Paul, DDG Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring Cell (TERM) NE 1, Shillong; Apurba Das, DDG Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring Cell (TERM) NE 1, Dimapur; Dr. R. Ravi Kannan, President Association of Oncologists in North East India and Dr. Jeremy L. Pautu, Director, Mizoram State Cancer Institute.

It may be mentioned that Reliance Infocom Limited is presently negotiating with the state government to launch 4G Internet service in the state.
